Phishing Attempt
There have been several cell phone text messages
reported that state "We regret to inform you
your credit union access has been locked. Account
has been frozen".
The message then requests that recipients call a phone
number or go to a website. Responding to this will
take you to a voice mail system or website that asks
you for credit card and other information that can
be used to steal your identity.
If you see a message like this on your cell phone do
not reply by texting, and do not call the
phone number listed.
If you believe you've been scammed, file your complaint
at ftc.gov, and then
visit the FTC's Identity Theft website at consumer.gov/idtheft.
08/08/08 -- Beware Vishing
Attempt
There have been several automated
phone calls reported that state "Your SunState Credit card
had been blocked. Please call the following number
to safely reactivate it".
Responding to this will
take you to a voice mail system that asks
you for credit card and other information that can
be used to steal your identity.
If you receive a message like this, do
not call the
phone number listed.
If you believe you have been the victim of
this scam, file your complaint
at ftc.gov, and then
visit the FTC's Identity Theft website at consumer.gov/idtheft.
06/12/08 -- Beware Economic Stimulus
Scam
There are several emails claiming to be from the Internal
Revenue Service (IRS) encouraging you to submit a form
to make sure you get your economic stimulus check.
These emails ask you to click on a link, fill out
a form, and submit the form for a speedy
refund.
The IRS does not initiate taxpayer communications
through e-mail.
As always, to stay safe, do NOT click
on ANY links in ANY emails.
Instead, type the address in your browser’s address
bar.

There are several emails circulating claiming to be
from SunState Federal Credit Union telling members
they have a new alert message and providing a link
to a bogus website.
SunState Federal Credit Union does not send links

of a credit card account. You should not respond

An

claiming

Visa
is
asking
members
to
click
a
link
and
provide
account
information
in
order
to
activate
the
"Verified
by
Visa"
security
program.
Despite
the
genuine
logos,
the
email
does
not
originate
from
Visa.
Those
who
do
click
on
the
embedded
link
will
be
directed
to
a
fake
website
and
asked
to
provide
details
about
the
cardholder's
account
which
will
be
harvested
by
the
scammers.

Scam

has
been
a
recent
telephone
scam
where
a
phone
scam
artist
has
called
one
of
our
members
and
tricked
them
into
sharing
personal
information
about
their
account.
One
caller
stated
they
were
with
Sunstate
Federal
Credit
Union
and
the
other
stated
she
was
from
The
American
Bankers
Association
representing
Sunstate
Federal
Credit
Union.
Please
be
aware
that
SunState
Federal
Credit
Union
will
never
solicit
you
to
verify
your
account
number
over
the
telephone. Remember
never
provide
your
personal
information
or
passwords
in
response
to
an
unsolicited
request.
If
you
did
not
initiate
the
communication,
you
should
not
provide
any
information.
Ask
the
caller
for
their
name,
department
and
phone
extension.
Then
contact

know

correct

determine
