Phishing Attempt
There is an apparent CUNA.ORG phone scam that is
attempting to obtain credit card and PIN information.
The message requests members to call CARD SERVICES
FOR CREDIT UNIONS at 1-866-446-2319 immediately regarding
recent activity on their card. If the individual
places the call they will be instructed by an automated
phone system to enter their card number and PIN.
Responding to this will take you to a voice mail system that
asks you for credit card and other information that
can be used to steal your identity.
If you see messages like this on your cell phone do
not reply by texting, and do
not call the phone number listed.
If you believe you've been scammed, file your complaint
at ftc.gov, and
then visit the FTC's Identity Theft website at consumer.gov/idtheft.

Recently, an ATM scheme used to steal personal banking
information, known as “ATM Skimming,” has been reported
as being on the rise in New York, California, and
Florida.

4/6/09 -- Beware of
"Email"
An email claiming to be from Visa is asking
members to click a link and provide account information
in order to activate the
"Verified by Visa"
security program. Despite the genuine logos, the
email does not originate from Visa. Those who do
click on the embedded link will be directed to a
fake website and asked to provide details about the
cardholder's account which will be harvested by the
scammers.
As always, to stay safe, do NOT click
on ANY links in ANY e-mails.

There have been several cell phone text messages
reported that state "Your debit and credit card
pin needed to be verified".
The message then requests that recipients call a
phone number. Responding to this will take you to
a voice mail system that asks you for credit card
and other information that can be used to steal your
identity.
If you see a message like this on your cell phone do
not reply by texting, and do
not call the phone number listed.

Downadup Worms (Target Windows Systems)
A Microsoft Windows website, designed to assist in
remediation and which is not being blocked by the
worm, has been set up and can be found at: http://safety.live.com

to check for and remove the worm.
08/28/08 -- Beware Text Message

reported that state "We regret to inform you
your credit union access has been locked. Account
has been frozen".
The message then requests that recipients call a
phone number or go to a website. Responding to this
will take you to a voice mail system or website that
asks you for credit card and other information that
can be used to steal your identity.
If you see a message like this on your cell phone do
not reply by texting, and do
not call the phone number listed.

08/08/08 -- Beware Vishing
Attempt
There have been several automated phone calls
reported that state "Your SunState Credit card
had been blocked. Please call the following number
to safely reactivate it".
Responding to this will take you to a voice
mail system that asks you for credit card and other
information that can be used to steal your identity.
If you receive a message like this, do
not call the phone number listed.

06/12/08 -- Beware Economic
Stimulus Scam
There are several emails claiming to be from the
Internal Revenue Service (IRS) encouraging you to
submit a form to make sure you get your economic
stimulus check. These emails ask you to click on
a link, fill out a form, and submit the form for
a speedy refund.
The IRS does not initiate taxpayer communications
through e-mail.
As always, to stay safe, do NOT click
on ANY links in ANY emails.

There are several emails circulating claiming to
be from SunState Federal Credit Union telling members
they have a new alert message and providing a link
to a bogus website.

An email claiming to be from CUNA is asking members

of a credit card account. You should not respond
